YACT: Cylinder Misfire

One of the cylinders (#2) caused a check engine light, with a code of cylinder misfire. The car drives normally and has full power. I notice it might have run a bit rough when I first started it up after sitting all winter.

Can someone elaborate on the symptoms of a problem with a) fuel injector, b) coil, c) spark plug?

The car is 5 yrs old and has 46K miles.

Grab your pliers, pull the plug, ground it to the block and check the spark (as well as the condition of the plug). Look at the conductor and note what color it is.

also since apparently the car was sitting, check to see if the plug wires are cracked and old, they need to be replaced every now and then too.

The car is a 2000 BWM M3, and I believe it has the coil-on-plug setup, so no plug wires.

I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for 30 mins but the light didn't go out.

What would be the symptoms of a bad injector and a bad coil? Would the symptoms be persistent?

I can't imagine that the car has "full power" if you have a misfire. Do you have a V6 in that car?

It?s a straight six and I believe the misfire occurred when I started up the car after sitting for a few months as it ran rough for about 20 seconds, but it?s been fine since then.
