YACT: Crown Victoria (Interceptor package)

I don't know why anyone would *want* to be mistaken for a cop. The last thing I want is to be "made" when I'm off-duty.

Just get a regular Crown Vic and swap in the 32 Valve version of the 4.6 litre instead of the 16 valve engine that comes in both the standard and Police versions. The DOHC 32 Valve version can top 300 hp very easily. 🙂

besides worn tires/brakes, the suspension will probably be shot. not to mention the holes all over the place from the equipment. dont forget the electrical system too. lightbars/radios/sirens draw a lot of power when in use. having driven police interceptors for 3 years on the job, i for one would never want to buy a used squad car, knowing full well how they are driven.😉

however, my uncle had an used squad for years before it finally died on him.

A buddy of mine has a 95 Caprice PI and his has 225,000 miles on the original engine at this point. The first transmission went out around 130,000 and after that he had it rebuilt and upgraded. He beats the hell outta that car every day. Right now it has glasspacks that exit under the rear doors .

The one he bought had EVERYTHING intact. He had to remove the lightbar and the interior red and blues, but everything else is still there, from the rear cage to the megaphone.

Do yourself a favor, and drive a Town Car at least once. Power is lacking, but it's roomier than the Crown Vic in the front and back seats. Most likely will have been owned by a responsible older gentleman as well, and that's a big plus. If you still want more power, consider a Buick Roadmaster Limited, with 6.7 second 0-60 and 15 second quarter. Again, probably not driven by kids or worse... cops! 😀

Ugh, there really ISN'T that much room in the back, and certainly NOT for two guys and a girl. Two girls and a guy, maybe...

What I like about the Crown Victoria is that there is plenty of room in the back for two guys and one girl..

OH WAIT you meant how his girlfriend got tag teamed by two guys on a boat????

I've got a 95 Caprice 9C1 police package, that I'm slowly working on transforming into an Impala SS clone. The comfort of a big car is amazing, and the power of the LT-1 keeps me ahead of almost everything on the road. I feel sorry for the police now, having to drive the underpowered Crown Vic. When I first got my car, it was still in a black and white paint scheme, and had spotlights and the front bumper guard. I got it with 129K miles, in Sept of 2002. The engine still pulls strong, however, the tranny slips slightly sometimes (weak part of these cars). I wouldn't trade it for anything right now, and I still get pretty good mileage (23-25 mpg on the freeway).

Caprices are alright, if you enjoy driving one of the ugliest cars ever made.

Once I was on this desert highway, and I felt something fly by me at very high speeds.
Turns out it was a black lamborghini with all its lights off smuggling drugs!

🙂

Some people refer to the Crown Vic as a "boat".

hardcore impala fans can say whatever they want, but i really like the new impala in black with the police package with tinted mirrors and the police hub caps.

wouldn't it be much more inconspicuous for them to drive a 1990 Toyota Corolla at legal speeds with the lights ON?

Used Police Cars

Edit: Looks fairly legit, if I remember right it's part of another site, but they apparently get them from a bigger Texas city fleet at ~60K miles.

New carpeting, repainted, radio installed, look pretty nice actually.

Enjoy

Why not get a crown vic with interceptor package from a regular person? Ie, a car that hasnt been beat on. A guy I know bought one new, a 2000 or 2001...has like 15k miles on it, its pristine...has the spot light too.

So are you going to dress as Jake or Elwood?

Seriously though, the city governments run police cars till they fall apart, all of the moving engine components have accelerated wear from the extended idling police cars do.

If you want a car like this, I'd suggest looking on the used market for personally owned large domestic RWD cars, Roadmaster, Caprice, etc. They've depreciated pretty significantly already & if owned by an older driver have had 1/10 of the abuse a police car goes through.

I've always wanted a Checker Cab though and also find myself strangely drawn to police cars.
