I'm buying a new car in June (haven't decided on Altima vs. Accord Coupe vs. Ford Escape) and I know I need to be easy the first 1k miles, no redlining, but no staying at a constant RPM for very long, which means no roadtrips. My commute is 60 miles one way, in the morning it's nothing but straight cruise control one speed most of the day, in the afternoon not so much, but still not a whole lot of variance on the tach, so what should I do?

What are you doing with your current car?

Also, AFAIK, you'd be fine in that kind of commute.

take a day trip out on a US highway, having to stop in all the small towns and change speeds with all the limit changes.

Just slow down every few minutes and then bring the car back up to speed. It will be fine.
