Modern cars will save more fuel by leaving the car in gear and coasting. When the ECU on almost all modern cars senses engine braking, it shuts off the fuel injectors and the car uses zero fuel. If you coast with the car in neutral, it is still using a small amount of fuel to let the engine idle.

So you're best to coast with the car in gear.
