YACT: choking randomly

'96 Eagle Talon:

While cruising (not cruise control) or while stopped (braking), the car will suddenly choke decently hard for a half second and we'd feel it, but the RPM is ok. What can cause this? It was tuned up not too long ago (but not the cause of this since it's been long enough)...

I'm not sure what you mean by the car will choke hard, but the RPM is okay.

Does it stutter, or not? 😛

No it doesn't stutter the acceleration either. It's as if I ran over a small pothole kind of thump (again, while accelerating or while stopped)... Keep in mind this thump is a feeling, not a sound. Each "choke" lasts only a split second and is completely random.

During a 15 minute local trip, it could happen a few times, or not once at all.

Oh. Choking is typically a word used to describe an engine symptom, that's why I was confused.

I'm assuming it's an auto? Sounds tranny related.

Yes it's an auto tranny ... I'll give a cookie to whomever knows what kind of engine is in this thing... cause I sure as hell don't (my mom's car and Eagle stopped making them)...

misfiring spark plug? are all of your plugs/wires secure and making good contact? How long ago did you tune it up? What did you do in your tune up? How many miles on the car? Ever had the fuel injectors cleaned?

I was thinking a spark plug thing too... I'll have to check with my dad when it was last tuned up and what exactly. Mileage is about 65k or less... and your last question... I doubt it unless that's in a standard tune-up.
