Cool! An american burner with a supercharged motor. Interior looked good.

I thought WOW! America FINALLY woke up and decided to make a sports coupe. And then I checked it out.

205 HP even with a supercharger.

WAKE UP!!!!
American companies can't make a decent motor if their life depended on it. What is wrong with american companies that they can't realize the horsepower war has been going on for a while now.

jeez.

No crap. 205HP is WAY more than enough for that car. Viper GTS's '89 Accord had less than 100HP and it was very zippy. The Cobalt is about that size or smaller with more than twice the HP.

You idiots have your heads so far up in the clouds that you're not happy with a car and turn your noses up at it unless it's a frickin supercar. Elitist morons.

if i have $22k i sure as hell won't buy the cobalt SS. and don't even mention the ecotec...

and as for zippy, it all depends on how you drive it. my co-worker's focus is zippy when he weaves through traffic going 80 on a 45...

205 HP isn't bad at all in a 2800 lb car. My 2800 lb car made 200HP/200lb/ft when it was stock, with the turbo even and it was really quick. It was also RWD and midengined though. ;)

If I have $22k to spend, I'd make one hell of a down payment on a 2005 Mustang GT :D

Ecotec is the way of the future. Twin Cam is no longer and the 2200 LN2 is gone too.

ah WRX wagon for me, though i was thinking for $22k one can buy a sentra SE-R-V and save money or fork in that $1k more and get a RSX-S with 6 speed and leathers.

Uh, think about its competition.

RSX-S, Celica GT-S, SVT Focus, GTi...

Its 205hp is more than any of those cars (though for 2005 RSX-S has 210hp).

Whats your point?

then again cavalier has a ecotec that is rated at 140 horses which has about 20 more than the corolla/civic/sentra/focus. if there was a long line waiting to buy a cavalier, i surely missed it

I have a 2005 RSX-S, and 210HP is more than enough! :) At least for me... Plus I can add a "Powered by Honda" sticker for about 17.76543 more HP.

Okay, not serious about that, but I do have a 2005 RSX-S, in Vivid Blue Pearl. I love it! :)

The Cavalier has been waaay overdue for a change anyway. Its on an aging design... since 1993 I think? My mother drove a 1998, and it was a piece of crap.

This new Cobalt is supposed to be the first decent small coupe by GM. Its interior and body styling is decent.

Anyway, the OP was referring to its engine and its lack of grunt, nothing about cometics or brand name/ride comfort. I was simply comparing its engine to its competition, where it outclasses just about every car (other than the new 2005 RSX-S) in terms of power.

That said, I'd still rather have an RSX-S over the Cobalt SS :).

I would take the Supercharged Cobalt out of any of the cars listed in this thread (save for the obvious WRX, Mustang GT, etc), simply because it'd actually have a power band, as opposed to my friends 2004 RSX Type S which doesn't. It's a good thing the RSX has that 6 speed tranny :D

Should hit at least 6.4 in 0-60 and about 14.6 in the quarter. My current car currently hits the 1/4 in about 16.5 lol. Plus you can always get a new pulley, REAL exhaust, and a nice intake and up that HP to at least 260-300.

agreed on cavailer being a POS... lots of road noise and a cheap cheap interior that a hyundai accent can beat...

and yes the cobalt is better-looking than the cavalier, and SUPPOSED to have better interior than the cavalier... (nobody knows yet...)

i was never hoping chevy to being out something revolutionary like its slogan as of late, but something different from the cavalier would be nice (like the ford focus, ignoring its reliability record)

is the cobalt a nice car? maybe. is it worth $22k? no. can chevy do better? absolutely. would i buy this over a sentra SE-R/RSX-S? definitely not.

Um, the 200hp version sure as hell doesn't start at 14k :p The base, powered by a weed wacker motor starts at 14k :p

Oh and Nik - 89 Accords are hardly zippy. My cousin owns one, my dad owned an 88, and I owned an 88 as well. Don't call what's a slow dog "zippy". It makes me question what cars you consider "fast"

Um, its 145hp for all models aside from the SS Coupe. The OP was referring to the 205hp SS Coupe in this thread.

Base models start at 14k, The SS Coupe is about 22k.
