Im looking at giving my current car to my little sister and possibly buying a new car. Was looking at the 05 mustang, and I like it a lot.

Im curious as to what you guys think. If you could buy any car (only cars, no trucks etc..) for around 20,000 or less... what would you get?

You simply can't get a decent new car for under 20k.

Can I have some of what you're smoking?

VW GTI 1.8T
Manual
Cloth Interior
180 HP standard

I've had the VR6 model for 3 years now, and I am in love with it
Very fun drive. It has great handling, comfortable seating, and lots of storage space

well with all the employee pricing you need to get one of those for sure. I was gonna get a Saab 9-2x for super cheap 16500 but they don't make them in white. Heck a Pacifica for 25k is now 20k.

lots to look at!

Thx for the input, but I forgot to mention it had to be nice looking :)

I want something sporty looking. I don't like the boxes (aka scions/focus/whatever you just linked me to)

Buying a V6 Mustang is like chopping the balls off the damn horse. If you want a Mustang you really should get it with a V8. Other options would be the Nissan Altima or Maxima if you want one that's sporty you can try and find an Altima 3.5 SE but I'm doubtful that you'll find it in your price range. Other options would be a Mitsubishi Lancer (EVO is going to be way out of your price range though) or perhaps a Scion tC.

civic/mazda3/scion tc are my top picks

VW GTI would be cool too, although id be slightly wary about VW's reliability- especially in comparison to those listed above. civic coupe looks mighty nice though...

I have no need for a v8, Im not going to be racing it. Sure it would be fun, but I really don't NEED it. Not that I need a new car anyway :)

I'll check out the Lancers, I don't know jack about them. To be honest I don't know jack about cars in general, just a little bit.

As far as the scion Tc goes, looks nice... but Im a little uneasy about the reliability of those cars. Anyone own/drive one? How are they?

Eh, just looked at the lancers. I think their kinda ugly. Im not a big fan of 4 door cars.

I did notice the 06 eclipse though, thats one crazy looking car. About the price range I was looking for too. Dunno performance wise how good those eclipses are. A buddy of mine has an older one and he says his is a piece.

Mazda3, great gas mileage.
You would even have some money left over. I got one for my wife when she got tired of the minivan this year. We got it for $16,400 + TTL + a dealer add on.

It's no Mustang, but I have driven a Mustang with a v6 and it's a waste of car. I have driven a Mustang v8 and it's a waste of gas, unless you are out to look cool, and race everyone you see. Then by all means... the new Mustangs look sweet.
