YACT: Carmax.com

I'm looking for opinions and experiences on Carmax.com. It's one of those "no haggle" low pressure operations.

Hmmm ... They seem to knock a few hundred dollars off of the NADA prices. When I've been to their location before, there were swarms of people shopping for vehicles, but I still got the attention of a salesperson so I could take a few cars for a ride. I guess I still prefer to buy my used vehicles from private parties -- assuming the vehicle has been thorougly checked out.

I bought my car from carmax. They said it had ABS .. it didn't have ABS and I found this out way after I bought the car. Also I paid a lot for my car and I am stuck with the payments.

Carmax is pricey. The only plus is that they basically claim you won't be buying a car that had their miles rolled back or a flood damage or accident repaired car.

Would I buy from carmax.com again? no

Rule #1: Never buy a used car from a rental agency.

Rule #2: See Rule #1

Seriously, don't do it. Rental cars are beat into the ground. This is the last place I'd look for a used car. The car you get with 30K miles on it is probably equivalent to 90K of "typical" user miles of driving.

I've bought 2 vehicles from carmax and have been very satisfied with them. I believe carmax is owned by circuit city though.

That is correct. However, Circuit City "spun off" CarMax and they are their own company - but, still owned by the group that controls CC.
