YACT:Car question.

If one was to turn on there car on a cold day and turned the A/C to the max setting. Is the radiator fan suppose to kick on ASAP. Just wondering because mine doesn't.

Also, if a radiator cap was worn/bad would it cause coolant to sprew out of the overflow tank because of a incorrect pressure?

Not necessarily. It depends upon the car. Most fans are on a thermostat and even those that have a secondary fan to come on when the AC is on are usually on a thermostat also.

What Ron said.

As for the 'spewing' that sounds like there was too much coolant in the system.

All cars w/electric fans come on when AC is switched on, without airflow across the condenser
coil it cant work. Sensors in the coolant system will also " tell" the PCM to switch on the fans
when the coolant reaches a preset temp.

Yes, to both questions.
As BUTCH1 said without airflow across the condenser coil, it can't work. All vehicles have fans that come on when A/C switch is on.
And for the radiator/coolant cap, if it gets weak, 1: you lose pressure in your cooling system, which in turn lowers the boiling point of your coolant, allowing car to "overheat" at a lower temperature, & 2: A weak cap will cause the coolant to escape from the cooling system quicker.
With todays vehicles, it seems that the coolant requirement has been calculated to the ounce! Lose a quart & you'll have major overheating.
