Saab 92-X? It's basically a rebadged Subaru Impreza wagon with a better looking chin and longer warranty. They have $5,000 in rebates right now making them around $18,000'ish.

Torquey little 2.5L in them and "ok" milage. Won't be able to match the Civic/Matrix/MZ3. Not far off of the tC.

I thought invoice on the 9-2x was like $21k? With the $5k rebates, it should run you a little more than $16k...

I really wanted to get this for a while but i've been told I can't get a wagon because "it's not cool" ... sooo I might be going for the 07 Subaru Legacy 2.5i ($21k otd right now with 7% tax, i'm waiting till they're $20k otd with 0% apr financing).

Not cool? WTF ever. Throw your dog in the back. Throw your bike on the top. Throw a kayak on the top. Throw a TV in the back. Open the hatch and throw a tailgaiter. Ect.

Wagons rock for function.

There are only *three* major downsides to a hatch/wagon.

1) No real good way to lock things away like you can in a sedan
2) They aren't as wide as sedan so things like golf clubs don't always fit perfectly across the cargo area
3) Everyone with a sedan will be begging you to take them shopping for bulky things that they couldn't fit in their less functional sedans and coupes.

I can't really give you great advice, bas I have only had a car payment once, and hated it. Now I can't see <i>not</i> buying a car outright. However, I must commend your decision to stick to a MT. They are more efficient and less complicated. Which means less problems, slightly better fuel economy, and lower repair bills should you have a problem. (Then again, I have never seen a Honda/Toyota MT fail, and I have been around them at least 7 years.)

edit: don't forget to have your GF ask the insurance company to cut her a little check for her pain and suffering.

Oh yeah, that goes without question, plus reimbursement for days off work, prescriptions, medical bills, etc... Thankfully her back seems to be okay. Had they screwed up her fusion, it could have screwed her Wyoming worker's comp coverage...that would've landed them with a ridiculous settlement for us. She has to have her SI-joints injected with pain killers every 3-4 months.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input....and by all means, keep 'em coming if you've got more.

Buy a practical used car, use the $16 THOUSAND DOLLARS you saved for something good.
gross

Hey, I'm just sayin' that $20,000 is a LOT of money to waste on a car whose basic function can be served equally well by something a lot cheaper. The Outback was just the first thing that popped into my head.
