YACT: car makes a grumbling noise when accelerating sometimes and jerks into Drive and Reverse from fresh start.

My car (an automatic 88 volvo 760 turbo) makes a grumbling noise when I lightly put my foot on the gas at about 15 mph. It only makes this noise if I lightly press the gas and stops if I go faster.

It also makes a dull snapping noise and jerks into drive and reverse when I start it in the morning, it only happens if the car is started after 12 hours of sitting there.

any ideas? Thanks in advance.

That is the torque converter doing that funky stuff, ya need a tranny overhaul.

Drive it till it blows up, then off it or drop a new tranny in it.

sounds like a busted motor mount to me.

Have you been revvvving it up and throwing it into drive??

Edit.....maybe not. I didn't read the whole discription. 😱

I'd guess this is almost normal...your automatic choke/etc is probably on, causing the car to idle high initially while the engine warms up. High idle = torque converter engages more abruptly.

it just started doing that though.

What about the grumbling noise when I accelerate lightly?
Def. check the transmission fluid. Do you know when it was last serviced (how many miles ago)?

I had the trans fluid replaced about 1 year ago I have driven < 3K since then. I'll give it a check tomorrow to see if it is clean and if the levels are ok.
