I wasn't thinking straight today, and while I was backing out of my garage, I managed to pry the bumper off of my '02 Civic EX (not completely off, just the right side). I did the best I could to reattach it, but of course its not the same.

I was wondering how much it will cost for the Honda dealership or a car shop to properly attach it, because I'm afraid that one day the bumper may fall right off while driving. I don't think i need a new bumper, but it seems a little loose and low in the mid secition (where the emblem is).

[My attempt at a visual description of how its attached]

If "O"s = hold the screws in place

O --> C (meaning it ripped)

post pics and we should be able to tell ya if it will actually fall off during driving. Normally if just one side is torn, theres nothin to worry about but some accidents cause wierd things.

Well the first thing you can do is get some decently thick wire and tie it inbetween the bracket on the bumber (if there is one) and to the frame. This should only take you maybe 30 minutes at most if you can find a brace. You can also try to use duct tape, just make sure you clean the surfaces before using it. :)

I'd really just like a price estimate so I know what to expect.

I heard that if I say to the insurance company the bumper came off due to a hit and run while the car was parked, i will get a free repair without raising my insurance premium?

I didn't say that I was going to lie to the insurance company. Someone suggested on another forum and I didn't know how it worked. I wasn't planning on even contacting insurance, i merely wanted a price estimate at a car shop or Honda dealership.

Hmmm, Im pretty sure those Civics have front fender panel plastic inserts so if the black plastic push rings got snapped out of them then chances are you need obviously the new rings but maybe a new insert but maybe not. In terms of the bumper itself, if you pryed it off just from one side then I would take it off and see if its cracked anywhere on the inside where it bent. It can be a pain to put the bump back on if you've never done it before but I would check everything out. You can kind of make a guess of what it would cost for parts if you go to Majestic Honda (google it) and just enter your model. If it's something you can't do yourself...add labor (probably 40 or 50 an hour).

If you have comprehension and collision coverage, then it doesn't matter who caused the damage to the car, they'll repair it. If you don't have either, then it doesn't matter who caused the damage - they won't repair it.

Comprehensive and Collision coverage are almost always sold as a package deal, so you probably have both or neither.

Anyway, back in high school I ran into a friend's 96 or 97ish Civic in the high school parking lot and scratched up the bumper. The repair cost $700.

besides those ripped rings, i dont think anything else is wrong (cracked, dented, etc). So I don't think i need a new bumper. So I hope it won't cost too much.
