this spawned from another thread about displacement...

anyway, correct if I am wrong, the Cobra 4.6 is basically a Mustang GT 4.6L with DOHC plus a supercharger. and the Mach 1 is just the Cobra without the supercharger.

if so, my question is can the DOHC head from the Mach1 and Cobra be transplanted to a GT? (if it gets too technically complicated, forget explaining the detail, I am just curious would it be a relatively simple swap)

And AFAIK, no would be the answer - SOHC is 16v, DOHC is 32v.

What does the 16v vs. 32v have to do with anything? The number of valves is a product of the heads, which is what we're talking about swapping.

From what I've seen, it can be done, but it's not worth the hassle.

All of which doesn't matter...

And yea. It's possible.

the cobra motor has a lower compression ratio as well. the mach1 is the old cobra motor. also used in the marauder.

the only 'stang I will consider is first gen fastback (1964 1/2 ?) :) the distant second would be the current gen. Granted that it will be a second car and I can afford one.

and from that site I saw DOHC 5.0.... so is that a swap from the current dohc 4.6 to the previous gen 5.0 or that was a stock motor from Ford.
(and whao, turbocharged Mustang... that's a rare one)
