YACT: Can someone recommend tires for my truck...

Apparently my truck ('92 Toyota 4x4 Pickup) has Light Truck tires instead of your standard tires.

I am looking for 31x10.5 R15

Can someone recommend me some good all around tires. We live in Virginia, so snow is not a priority, however i want nice traction (in other words, the ability to go off road if need be).

The mechanic highly recommended the GoodYear Fortera tires. Would these tires that meet what i am asking for or can someone recommend some better tires. Since this is an old truck, dont recommend like $500 tires. Additionally, we want a quieter nicer ride, so please no offroad tires. Like i said earlier i want the capability to go offroad if need be, but i virtually never do it.

Thank You,
-Kevin

I like the Goodyear Longtrail TA's that came on both my Tahoe and Trailbazer. I bought them for my '91 Dakota, they might be a little pricey though.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos are good. I had those on a vehicle a couple years ago and they were quiet on the road but had a nice deep tread pattern for decent off-road capabilities.

They cost around $500 for a set of 4 though for 16" wheels IIRC.

That's what I was going to suggest. I have them on my Blazer and have been very happy with them so far. Mine were $508 installed.

That was the cheapest I could get them anywhere. At the time Bridgestone had a $75 rebate if you bought 4 and went to a Bridgestone dealer to have them put on, so I priced that. I think the lowest quote I got was ~$650 before the rebate. I ended up going to the mechanic in the town I grew up in (and where my parents still live) because he could get them and does good, affordable work.

Tirerack sells them for $137/ea for your particular truck, factor in shipping on that price as well.

I really dont think you are required to replace the tires with LT tires. I think any tire will do, the truck doesnt weigh enough to stress regular passenger car tires, and unless you are going off-road or want the look, all terrain tires are overkill.

For even minor off-roading, passenger car tires will be sufficient, you might puncture a sidewall or something, but if you are bargain shopping the tires should be cheap enough already.

Your best bet would probably be to call around and find some new truck take-offs. You should get a decent deal on some of those. It might require moving up to 16" rims, but virtually any 6 lug pattern (your Toyota is 6 lugs..right?) will bolt right on. So almost any GM/Nissan 6 lug wheel will bolt onto your truck.

I put on a set of Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on my Ranger and promptly took it down to Ohio Power where I ran it through the crappiest muck I could find. Then drove home on the highway at 75mph with almost no road noise whatsoever. I love these tires. You will too.

Well i dont want A/T. I actually am looking at All Season tires. Consumer reports rated the Fortera the highest. Are those tires actually good?

A cousin of mine swears by his Yokohama Geolanders on his 1/2 ton Chevy

BUT, he commutes mostly from wisconsin to the twin cities (about 60 miles, I think)

I know nothing about tires, but once you figure out which ones you want, look at the price on tire rack, print it out, and find someone to match the price for you and install them.
