i was looking at it when i added oil in my car and noticed there are like very very light "scuff" marks on the lopes... is that normal? I mean they're like REALLY fine but i remembered when i first got the car it was a lot smoother
28k on my car now btw

Light scoring on the camshaft lobes is nothing to worry about. It could be caused by a number of things but most likely dirt in the motor oil.

I thought about this Quixfire, when it was first posted.

As you know, the cam lobe interface is the most difficult to lubricate. By its very nature,
metal to metal contact is a fact, only roller tappets ease this friction.

To the original poster: You are only seeing the lobe at the oil fill port. Be careful not to
introduce dirt at the time of oil make-up. Clean the oil bottles and funnel before use,
the dirt will be placed right on the lobe if you don't.

What kind of car is this that exposes cam lobes when you pull the oil cap? Don't most cars have a shroud between the head and the valve cover?

Not all of them. I know the original engine in my Accord you could see the cam through the the oil cap. Couldn't see any lobes tho.

The Mazda engine in my Escort also has the camshaft exposed when the oil filler cap is removed.
