this is for a 97 NISSAN ALTIMA GXE

last night i noticed my gf's car was stuttering and hesitating. felt like it was gonna stall...but didnt. also check engine light came on. she took her car to pep boys today to get diagnosed. they read a misfire code ie one of her cylinders isnt working ie her spark plugs needs to be changed. pep boys suggested change spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, and air filter for $450!!

now air filter is easy and I know how to change that. How hard are the spark plugs and wires to change on that car? I have a VW GTI VR6 and changing spark plugs is a 15 min job (all the spark plugs are easily accesible). Are they easily accesible on a 97 NISSAN ALTIMA 4 cylinder? Also how hard is it to change the fuel filter on that car?

anyone got any links or directions, DIYs?

Japanese cars a little tougher because they try to efficiently pack as much crap as they can in the smallest amount of space. I can't stay that for all cards, but my roommates honda is impossible to work on. Anyways, you should give a shot, because all of those things are easy to fix, they may just take some time because of the compact compartment.

I have yet to replace the spark plugs on my 95max, but i'd imagine i'd try it myself before dropping 450 on that job.

yea 450 is exactly the reason why i wanna give this a shot myself first. if i fail, i can always go back to pep boys 🙁
i remember my friend's dad was replacing the spark plugs on his 90 infinity Q45...took him almost a day...and he knows what he is doing. he had to take off parts of the engine to get to 2 of the plugs

Go to advance auto parts or autozone or back to the pepboys and buy a repair manual for around $20...then you can do what you need.
