YACT buying new (to me) used 2000-2001 car

I am used to pretty fast japanese cars. But now I have to get something on a bit slower side (family type car), for insurance purpose mostly.

I am willing to spend about 12-15K. In atlanta area, for that much, I can get a really pimped out (SE/GLE), low mileage Maxima (2000/1 with about 40K). I wanted stick only, but have changed the opinion on that, since found out that stick is much harder to resell later.

Well, now, the questions:

anything about Maxima that you know that would prevent me from buying it? (problems, issues, drawbacks)

what other car in this price range (with low mileage) would you recommend instead? (my SO is suggesting RX 300, but that's about 25K, and insurance is higher)

would you suggest buying from a dealer and not private party, and, if so, why?

Thanks for all the input

are you paying cash, or financing throu a bank??? If cash, then your insurance will be cheaper.

I say get a 2000 V6 4 door frontier
It will keep it's resale value much better than a car.

I had a 2000 4 banger frontier, and when i sold it 2 years later, i got $1000 less than what i paid.

paying cash

but, frontier?! no, definitely

while I might consider an SUV, pickup truck is definitely out of question

Get the Maxima. Used Maximas are an awesome deal!

it does appear so, but then again, Accord is also a fine car

I decided to ditch Licoln LS from the list of options, for its poor resale value

Get a 99 Maxima SE 5-spd. Cheaper than a 2000 model, and has the same performance while being cheaper to own/insure. Plus its the last model of its generation, so there is nothing wrong with it.

I never would have considered auto transmission before, but now I am shopping for auto, for i might have to sell it soon, in a year or so, and selling stick is not easy.

As far as 1999 vs. 2000, - I just want the car to be as close to new as possible, limited, of course, by the amount I am willing to spend. What is the basic difference between 1999 and 2000?

Not bad.... Similar story with my Toyota Tacoma.
Bought a used 98 Tacoma Prerunner drove it for 2 1/2 years - put on an additional 47K miles on the odometer -
Sold it for $250 less than what I paid 🙂
