I just changed my oil at pennzoil, and the weird thing is I can smell a burning smell kind of thing out of the car. Then I opened the hood, and I can see some (quite light) smoke coming out of the bottom of the engine. Is my car ok?? is is possible that they messed up something?? The engine heat meter is fine though

my car is a 98 honda accord

they probably spilled oil on it, and it's burning off the outside of the motor. Once it burns off it'll be normal again.

I agree with them! More than likely it's that. If it doesn't go away then something else is might be wrong.

oh ok.. Im just too paranoid then

and one more thing: AVOID pennzoill at all COST!! I asked for their full service (which was around 6 buks more from the basic) and it included a tire pressure check.. and they did not do it... I even asked the mechanic whether he did it or not.. then he had the nerve to lie to my face by saying that he did it... Then I checked my tire pressure myself... and of course he did not do it (it was even visible that my front left tire is a little bit flat)

So I told the cashier that I was not going to pay for the full service, and I didnt

It sounds like they didn't do a very good job with your oil change, either.

I would re-change your oil, just to be sure they didn't "accidentlly" slip some sand or something in there. :p

I dont think so, coz I paid the cashier after they finished with my car... otherwise I will be very cautious too

The good news is that your car is ok. The bad news is that Pennzoil (aka Jiffy Lube) did what they are infamous for with Hondas and Acuras and failed to replace the one-time-use drain plug seal. Take the car back to them and tell them to do that, or you'll be smelling oil until it is replaced (the leak is very small, but it falls right on the exhaust).

They had better, eh?

Demand like 4 free oil changes while you're at it. :p

You better watch out... it could be the flux capacitor going bad. If I were you I'd stay under 88 mph.

Or it could just be oil burning on the outside of the engine.

I couldn't tell ya.
I only had Jiffy Lube change the oil in my '98 Integra once, the exact same thing happened to me as happened to you, I went back to have them fix their error, they denied all knowledge, they'll never change my oil again.

Didn't know some cars had a one time use drain plug seal. Both my nissans don't. Nissan owns.

Anyway chances are your oil tank is overpressurized from negative feedback on the oil pump. It's rare but your symptoms do indicate it. What generally happens is that when the crank shaft dips into the oil tank every 18th revolution (say you have a 6 cylinder for instance, since it's 3x# of cylinders) it grabs oil because of an overfill and that can be throwing hot oil against your gasket seals. I've seen it and it's not pretty. Probably will need an engine rebuild. Sorry to have to be the one to break the news :(

:Q

:p

In all seriousness, they probably do use "one use" drain plug gaskets, but if they're made out of copper you can usually get quite a few more than 1 use out of them.

It will still tell you to replace the gasket when you change the oil, I am sure.

I just called penzzoil, and they were pretty nice about it.

They said that since the exhaust for my car (honda) is right below the oil filter, when they changed th efilter some of the oil spilled on the exhaust. They said that they tried to clean it, but it is possible that some remain. They told me that if I can still smell burning oil in the next few days I can bring my car back and they will check it for me.

Also I mentioned the drain plug seal, and they said that they always change this for all cars.

I also checked the bottom of my car if there is any oil drippings, there arent any

It sounds like it just got oil spilled on the manifold. Go for a nice long drive, and it will burn off in short order.

Ok let me get this straight, you went to a oil change place, but you had to change your own oil?
