YACT: Brake problems

On the way back to school yesterday I noticed my brakes were a little harder to push than normal. Usually they would depress softly, but lately they've been really tight/stiff feeling. Today on my way to the store I noticed the car was kind of struggling and I hit the brakes and it was like they were super tight so I pulled over for a second and they went back to the normal soft that they usually are. Then got tight again as I continued. On the way back from the store, however, they were fine, until I stopped and unloaded my stuff and cranked it back up and they were tight again.

The car stops fine, just seems weird that the pedal would act up like that.

Is the engine running fine? If not check for a vacuum leak. If no leaks and the car runs good then you might have a power brake booster going bad.

it's your brakes 'fading'

they are overheating for some reason, possibly a stuck caliper, too small brakes for the car (domestic companies do this A LOT) or el cheapo pads/rotors

go down a road at about 45, and stop VERY quickly (dont break traction) do that twice.. I gaurantee the second time your pedal will feel really hard and it will be difficult to stop

I called this local shop and they said it could be the booster thing, too. Anyone know how much these cost?

Several possibilities ;

(1)Defective brake booster (Already mentioned).....Likely

(2)Plugged compensating port in your Master Cylinder (This allows the brake fluid to travel back into the master cylinder from the calipers and wheel cylinders after the pedal is released).....Likely

(3)Defective auto adjusters on rear drums....unlikely

Thanks guys, I went today and they said it was dirt and air in the brake lines or something and they flushed it. $55.
