About 2 yrs ago I read that BMW was working on solinoid operated engine valves. This would permit variable valve timing and opening. Valve opening could be controled to the point that no throttle valve would be necessary even for engine idle.
I have Googled and looked about on the web but can not come up with anything.
Have you heard about this? A link would be super, thanks.😕

Ford has been working with Magnavox since the mid 90's trying to develop this technology. My mother's cousin works at Magnavox on this program and has gotten a 4.0L V8 to develop 500bhp and get 40+mpg but it needs a 48-volt system and is prone to RFI inference.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will check that site out later today.
That valve is for hydrogen control. What I read about was individual solenoids for each intake and exhaust valve. This would permit total control of all valve timing events.
Super clean at the bottom, tremendous midrange & full breathing potential at red line.
Maybe it was just a teaser. I can not remember where I read about it.
🙂

Read a blurb in the past month in one of my car mags that BMW was still working on this for their 3 Series cars. Seems the problem is shutting the valve quick enough.
