YACT: Best Value and Best Luxury Car on the Market

First

Lifer
First, some basic questions:

1) Should I even consider getting a new car, or should I go with a used? I can spend $20-30K, but it'll have to be over like 20 years and not upfront. 😀
2) Knowing that, who's going to offer the best APR and long term payment options?
3) I'll be doing a lot of city driving, in L.A., so what non-aesthetic features are important?

OK, with that out of the way, what is the best value car and best luxury car out there. Off the top of my head, I'd say a Civic for value and a BWM for luxury, but since I know nothing about cars those are uneducated guesses at best.

Thanks for any help guys. 🙂

Take care,

Evan

EDIT: I'm looking for longevity more than anything else. I absolutely cannot be paying extraordinary costs for maintenance. In other words, a car that doesn't require a lot of work over the years and is cheap to maintain in general. Of course, I know that cars naturally break down over time. In addition, a car that has a warranty and good or great mpg.

90% of ATOT wil tell you to buy a G35- but heres my take..
Consider your financial situaion. Do you REALLY want the hassle of a loan for that long? Personally I'd reconsider.

ah shoot, sorry

Anyways my choice would be something used, 20k miles..
What are you looking for out of the car?

Yes... join the Ferengi Car Fiends of AT (FeCFAT)... buy used... buy pre-loved... buy with money left in pocket!

Best value for a luxury car is the LS400. Or if you want something more sporty, the GS300/400.

Find the newest model that you can afford.

I was exaggerating. 🙂

Then go for a Lexus or a Benz 🙂

Used A4...wouldn't need Quattro in L.A. 🙂

How good is Audi reliability?

About the same as VW.

😀

I'd love a new Audi, but I'm not sure I'd want to be stuck with a used one (read: out of warranty).

Viper GTS

Something with luxury that is a good value and will hold up over time... sounds like a Toyota to me. Going cheap on maintenance costs means avoiding Europeans and prolly all imports to some degree.

Non-aesthetic features in a warm place like LA? Music and climate control and comfy seats. I dunno how the roads are in LA but in NY/NJ a well-optioned midsize SUV is perfect... RX300 or Nissan Pathfinder... decent mpg and decent luxury.

best value car would probably be a Scion xB. Questionable looks (I think they look alright), but spacious as HELL inside, cheap as hell, toyota reliability

best luxury car...LS430 for straight luxury (imho), E55 AMG for a jet powered luxury car, M5 for a sporty luxury car...

best value luxury car....g35/is300, with the is300 probably being more on the reliable side, and g35 being more on the ballsy side.

Opinions from driving all of the above.

For value cars, midsize is accord, compact is corolla.

Current civcs aren't that great, the DX/LX engine is pathetically weak and standard options are a bit skimpy. DX doesn't have A/C + CD player, LX doesn't have CD player. Both those options are standard on corollas.

When matching up for features, an accord is only like 2-3k more than a civc/corolla and it's a much, much nicer car. For example, feature wise, an accord LX is pretty close to a civc EX (minus sunroof) and it's substantially bigger, more solid, higher quality, but the cost increase is minimal.

You can easily get a new I4 accord LX for ~18k, which is what I drive now. There are no serious or even moderate problems/issues with those cars. My biggest problem with this car is that it's destined to become super common in LA. These cars are growing on the streets like rats in a dumpster.

I think Lexus and Acura are clear winners in the reliability/cost of ownership arena..what else are you looking for other than reliability?

LS400 can be had for less tha 30k.

It's pure luxury.
You might even be able to score a good LS430 which is even better.

GS400 is sporty yet luxurious.

I'd also recommend a Acura, but you don't get the service like you get even with a pre-owned lexus.

Can't imagine it being any worse than any domestic make and probably better.

When I was in Belgium/Germany a fair amount in the mid/late 90s, I saw more Audis on the road than BMW and MB.

if you can't pay it off in 4 years you can't afford it. that'll set your price limit

i thought to work for AT anand put you guys through a car quiz?
