I've always wondered about those as well.

i saw another device where it locks the shifter in place. it looks like a miniture club where one U-hook is pushing again the shifter and the other hook pushes against the base of the hand brake lever.

i'm also thinking of wiring a momentary switch and relay inline with the fuel pump 12V wire. seems more secure and cheaper too.

fair market value as in buying from a dealer, or private party?

I believe for my friend (also a member on these boards) they gave him a figure that was referenced to listings on auto trader. Granted, his car was a '90 so there's not too many of those on dealer lots

Put a kill switch somewhere... very hidden. Even if you hotwire it, you'd still need to do the kill switch.

if this is an option for you... you should dig a hole, pour a big cement block with a hook in it
use a chain and padlock to secure the car...
problem is you gotta get down and undo it every time you go somewhere
another good idea to help in recovery if you do have a car stolen...
get locking gas caps... they can only go until they run out of gas
wont help if they want to strip your car, but it can help in actually getting the car back.

Yeah, my Cvic Si was stolen a couple of weeks ago.
Very very easy to steal from what I gathered.
They can start the car from breaking the ignition part in the steering hweel column.
