YACT: best car for 5-6k?

a friend of mine just moved here and he needs a car... he can only spend 6k max though... any suggestions? we're looking at econobox mainly
 
You can find '94ish camrys in that price range in the low 100k mile range. Even with 100k on the clock, that care is really only about halfway through it's functional life.

I agree. Nothing lower than a '98 Corolla though.

Yeesh, I wish my Canadian funny money could get any of those cars for 5-6k.

I don't think you'll get any of those for less then 6k. you'd need to get them a few years earlier.

Maybe it depends where you live? I was able to buy a '98 Corolla for 5k locally from the paper, with 50k miles on it too.
 
I bought my 2000 Ford Taurus SE w/ 65k for $4,700

It's a lot of car for the money (V6, power everything, cruise, abs, premium audio, etc.) and it's fine for my uses.
