xTerra is body-on-frame and won't ride as nicely as the rest. It will be much more of a "truck" than the others.

Given that she's moving on from a Regal, I'd go for the CRV or the RAV4 as they are going to be more carlike than the xTerra and more reliable than the Escape.

Of those two, I like the CRV best.

If I were buying for myself, I'd have to look long and hard at the xTerra, but I'd probably end up with a Subaru in the end.

Depends on how she intends to use it. The X-Terra is probably the most capable off-roader of the bunch but it would not give the best ride on the road. The Honda or Toyota would probably be the best choice if comfort is the biggest concern. I wouldn't get the Ford though.

Keep me employed! Buy the CR-V!

I'm somewhat partial to the Saturn VUE, as long as you buy it with the Honda V6! 🙂

Thanks for the input guys keep it coming,
to answer the questions, why no liberty, freelander, forrester or vue.
The libby and vue are a no go for her on looks (I like the liberty though 🙁) and besides Saturn sucks. 🙂
The freelander and Forrester are out of our price range.
The most off roading the SUV would do is the driveway to her dads house out in the country it would be a 99% on road vehicle. No 4x4 needed.

The rear "axles" on the CR-V are about as thick as pencils...I always found that amusing. It's a FWD vehicle for all practical purposes.

Hmmm...how about the Element? I had one as a rental car and it's got way more room inside than the outside would suggest. The suicide doors are pretty convenient too.

It did alright offroading last week - drive down tonnes of dirt roads, and did donuts in a muddy field 😛 The car is covered in mud, it's about an inch think aroudn the wheel wells 😛

It is? I always figured the pathfinder was midsize. Eh, what do I know. I'm not SUV shopping.

Calling a RAV4 or a CRV a SUV is like calling a moped a sportbike. Yeah its got the bacis like two wheels and a handle bar but thats about it.

What about the X-trail?

Or something from Suzuki?

IIRC isn't the X-trail the name the Xterra carries in the UK?

Hmm, Canada has both the x-trail and x-terra. The x-trail is a bit small then the terra.

Just checked it out and the US doesn't have the x-trail yet.

xtrail xterra specs.

xtrail uses a lot smaller engine.

RAV4 or CRV. just drive them and see what you like better. both are based on super-reliable cars, so you can't go wrong with either.

It is a woman's perogative to changer her mind.. We went to Carmax to get her car apraised and looked at a PT crusier. She seemed to like it quite a bit. SO I guess I need to add it to the list.
