YACT: Autozone pulled 3 codes OBDII codes on a coworkers 2001 Toyota Corolla...

Girl at my work has a 2001 Corolla 5-speed, 40k miles... she is from Venezuela and knows nothing about cars and doesn't have access to work on it. Yesterday she said her check engine light came on so I told her to go to Autozone to pull the codes. Today she came into work with 3 codes with diagnosis and here they are:

Code: P0440
"The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the evaporative emission control system."

Code: P0441
"The PCM has determined that the purge flow in the evaporative emission control system is incorrect for the current engine operating conditions."

Code: P0446
"The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent control in the evaporative emission control system."

So all 3 have to do with the evap. emission control system. Her toyota dealership said it sounds like a vacuum leak? Roger or anyone else have any idears? Thanks guys.

Well, if the codes are accurate, it sounds like code #3 is the problem that is causing code #1 and #2. Perhaps she should look into replacing the "vent control" on the evap system...

That seems like it would clear #1, and probably #2. (again, assuming they aren't all wrong, which is possible)

Edit: Funny thing, I had the common chrysler "your gas cap is off" vent leak code, and I let it go for a week or two, then I was under my truck changing the oil and noticed that a huge vacuum hose was just dangling around down there. Plugged it back in and no more code. lol

Go to some corolla forums and see what the codes really mean. On my old car i got the check engine light, and found out it was a stupid exhaust sensor that clogged up. Not worth my money to replace it so I just drove with it on til I got rid of the car.
