YACT: automatic transmission

Any time you want to limit the transmission to 1st (1) or 1st and 2nd (2) (could be wrong on the 2... I've never owned or done any significant driving in an auto but I believe that's the case).

Viper GTS

I use it to slow down sometimes.

yea, it is for climbing steep hills.

Seriously--you downshift with an auto tranny? Isn't that bad for the car?

It's for playing around with in rental cars where you don't care what happens to them. 😉

Hehehe. I found out that a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo will actually shift out of 1st at or near redline if you just leave it in that gear and keep accelerating. Same thing with second gear. 😀

Edit-The engine tends to overheat though after driving it like this for a half an hour. Trust me. You don't want to ever buy a previous rental.

usually only for steep hills, and usually only when you're pulling a trailer or carrying a heavy load.

not for 2nd gear or 1st gear. there is overdrive or 3rd gear for pulling a trailer

Works good in the mean streets of detroit when it snows 8 inches. They don't like to actually plow or do anything....works better at keeping the torque down low and not just merrily spinning your wheels.

Basically got to drive ours like a stick a few weeks ago when the snow gods pooped on us.

Got it up to 3rd gear twice that day.
