I was looking at Quaker state site and come to this

Quota:
Myth #12

Adding a quart of ATF the day before an oil change will clean your engine. ATF added to the motor oil will clean the engine due to the high levels of detergent in ATF.

Fact
ATF does not contain detergent chemistry. ATF does contain dispersants, which have properties similar to detergents. But ATF is not formulated to withstand the combustion environment inside the engine. Quaker State® recommends that you keep the fluids where they belong: motor oil in the crankcase, and automatic transmission fluid in the transmission.

Do ppl do that?

Lots of mis-information is everywhere. Look how people are stuck on 3,000 mile oil changes.

People do do that, and I have also heard of people using kerosene in the crankcase for the same purpose. I would, however, never abuse my car in such a way.

I use Mobil 1, fill up with 6 quarts (instead of 5 recommended by the manual) and change it every 2500 miles.

Never heard of the ATF in the engine. I did run an old 305 with kerosene in the crancase for a few minutes once. Oil channels were badly gummed up - this cleaned it out nicely, but I doubt it was very good for the rest of the engine.
