A coupla weeks ago my HTPC started resetting while loading. Always at the same point, when the Windows 2000 splash screen goes away.

Swapped: Ram. Hard drive. DVD drive. PSU. Sound card. Vid card.

It was a fairly new CPU so I didn't swap it (and didn't have another to swap it with handy.) So I bought a new mATX KT400 mobo on the FS/FT forums. Since it took DDR and my old one didn't I had to wait until I got some spare RAM.

Well, today I did the swap. Guess what? Same thing. This time I tried swapping the CPU with a brand new Duron 1800. Same thing.

Ok, WTF is going on?!?!?!?! It's now a completely new PC yet it still restarts at the same point! The new HD has a fresh Win2k install, not imaged from the old one.

I'm going to do a new install again, maybe with XP this time just to see...

Ouch. Just had a thought. I'm using a KVM switch to do the setup. I wonder...

same thing happened to my htpc too, and than I realized that the ram were in slot 2 and 3 instead of slot 1 and 2. Your problem might be totally different thou.

BIOS reports 30degC.

I also should have mentioned, I swapped drive cables too.

I dunno about grounding. I've never had to do more than make sure there is metal to solderpad contact at the screw holes...

HTPC= Home Theater PC

No Hyperthreading on an AMD. ;)

2 different mobos. Neither ECS. ;)

I'm completely reinstalling Win2k again. we'll see...
