You won't get an Ex for $17K, sorry. Civics in general are selling off the lots, specifically the Ex's & Si's. If you don't need it, wait. Otherwise pony up and pay about $19K.

I actually want it for closer to $17,000 than $18,000. I figure if he got about $1700 off of invoice I should get roughly the same. Invoice on it falls aroudn $18,700 so $17000 seems right in line. I might think about going up to $17,500. My company works a lot with car dealerships but we don't work with the dealership I went to at all. One of the others said they would give me "a good deal" so I emailed them tonight. We'll see what they say.

I know what you mean about good luck. They didn't have any 4 Door civics on the lot. The first sales guy says, "I don't even think there are any in the state." We go inside and the other guy says he can have one there in 30 minutes if I'm ready to buy and we can make the numbers right... Oh well...

Your initial logic is flawed bud.

Just because the salesperson took the customer inside doesn't mean that they so it for the price the customer initially stated. More often than not, the salesperson has no idea what price they can actually sell the car for.

Remember 2 important facts about this weekend.....it's a sales promotion weekend. Things have been marked up.....BUT it's the end of the month. If these guys want the commission, they'll work with out as much as possible.

One thing to note:
If the dealership doesn't want to play the game you want to play. Change dealerships.

I went through about 5 dealerships before I found one that would understand that I wanted my car how I wanted my car, and waiting 8 weeks for it to come in wasn't a problem. I paid about $500 over invoice.

The best weapon you have is going for the door. If you don't like what they are saying go for the door and tell them to give you a call when they can deal. Say you are going to have to check out some other places. 1/2 the time they'll give you a better price, the other you get out the door and you go to another dealership! They sell for a living, unless you have sales experiance they win every time. Your only weapon is to leave, they know thier best shot is selling you when you are there, they don't want you to leave 'to think about it'. And the 'selling like hotcakes' is BS. If there are more then a couple on the lot, obviously they aren't selling like hot cakes. They might be selling, but they just want you to make a rash decision.

I've had a lot of fun with car salespeople. They are slick, but for the most part aren't that bright, use that to your advantage. Come back at them with a couple quick replies and they don't know what to do.

Email dealers back and forth, work with the internet or sales or fleet manager. If you work with a salesman, it's just one more person YOU have to pay. Get the price you want before you even step onto the lot.
