because that's rediculous..

my engine head on my supra is only 75lbs.

the oil pan nut is usually no larger than 10mm. 120 is going to snap it.

why do you say 120 inch pds is off?
Because, 120 squeezed the gasket out so now it's leaking again.

10 ft lbs (same as 120 inch punds) squeezed the gasket out? Are you using a rubber gasket or RTV? You should really use a rubber one, theyre like $15 from kragen.

What kind/who made the gasket?

And what kind of wrench are you using and how old?

There is a very large difference between 120 FT/LBS and 120 inch/lbs

120 inch/lbs = 10 ft/lbs. You have a ft/lbs torque wrench. Set it for 10 ft/lbs.

Either his torque wrench is off, he "estimated" it, or he set the torque wrench to tighten to 120lb-ft.

Or he reused his old gasket...

Craftsman, brand new. I know 120in-lbs is 10ft-lbs, that's what I used. I think the problem is that I used some RTV along with the gasket (new, honda oem) at the advice of a friend. :\

Are you sure? I thought 120in-lbs meant 1440ft-lbs, so that's what I used.

IF the gasket is rubber then you do NOT use any RTV on it at all. The only time you use a sealeant is with cork, and even then you use very little.

the only reason you'd use RTV on a rubber oil pan gasket is some very small little dots to help hold the gasket in place if needed. Thats all. Make sure the two mating surafaces are completley clean and dry, as well as the pan isn't damaged, perhaps its bent somewhere and that why it still leaks.
