Haha,
i just got a new car and I'm already thinking about the next purchase...

But yeah, since I'm moving to NYC area, i figured a smaller car with good gas milage might be in order. Do you guys have any experience with Elises ?

From what I hear, if you are over 6' then you wont fit (comfortably). Other than that, they are awesome little cars.

Yeah I must be missing something.

If you live in NYC, you don't need a car.

not bad for a car that pulls over a G on the skid pad and does 0 to 60 in little over 5 secs

The Lotus Elise is a pure drivers car. Small, lightweight, stiffly sprung and fun to drive. I don't think it would make a good daily driver though. The seats are almost on the floor and aren't very well padded. Also, the car is pretty stiff so bumpy roads will jar you pretty good.

If you can live with the lack of creature comforts and bone jarring ride I say go for it. I would love to have one but they are pretty pricey for such a small car.

hahah I should explain this little more - I'm moving to NYC area for work and I'm planning on taking the train to work daily... so the car won't be a commuter or anything. That's why I'm thinking something really sporty and utilitarian would be awesome the rest of the time.

I've owned two nissan Z cars before as DDs and absolutely loved them.. no complains about passanger or trunk space (both were 2 seaters).

The Elise rocks...if you own it as a pure fun / weekend / 3rd car whatever...
One of the sportiest vehicles on earth...no comfort but you're sitting in it glued to the street :D
Unfortunately I only did a test ride once, because I needed a 1st / all day car... ;)
But when I could spare the money I would have one for the weekend... MK-I of course, the MK-II design sucks bad... :p

Swapping cars or buying another one? I would swap it.

If you are over 6ft you will have a very hard time getting in to it. I am 6'2" and tried to get into one. Not something that I could do every day for a daily driver. The car is just too small and low to the ground for tall people.

Utilitarian as in made specifically for an intended purpose. Not all cars are made to strictly get you from A to B ;)

Seriously...there is not a single decently paved road in the entire city, and it's not as if the small size is going to help you find parking spots, because there arent any in the first place. Besides, yellow cab vs. elise = cab wins. Not to mention it's a theft target, and will get absolutely destroyed on city streets by everything.

The only vehicle I would drive in the city on a day to day basis is a bradley or an abrahms, more for the cannons than the armor.

I was thinking of getting one of these also. Turns out my neighbor had one. He has to go about 30 miles out of his way to get some decent pavement to drive on.When he told me that, I decided to just drive his instead :)
