YACT: Any Integra GSR Owners?

I'm thinking about trading in my Legend Sedan and since I can't seem to find any Legend Coupe 6 Speeds I was thinking maybe an Integra GSR? My parents used to have a 97 Integra GSR but it was stolen and never recovered. I only got to drive it like two times so I don't remember how it performed.

I'm thinking of buying a '98 - '01 GSR with 30,000 - 60,000 miles on it. Anyone have any feedback on what they like/dislike about the Integra? Also any recalls or any known problems to look for when buying? I probably won't end up buying one until after summer or maybe during winter so I have lots of time to shop and do my homework. I really love my legend and if I find a 93-95 Coupe 6 Speed in good condition I will look into that over the integra but I'm kind of tired of having to worry about what's going to break down next.

So any info or input will be much appreciated

Oh and I'm looking to spend roughly $13,000. I was also looking at a used Subaru Impreza WRX or something sporty. I don't plan on racing but I want a car that has some pep.
 
they made a legend 6-speed? that was pretty early for a 6-speed.

anyway, the GSR is the ULTIMATE thief magnet, as evidenced by your parent's GSR getting stolen, but also it's just common knowledge. if you get one, get an alarm, get the club, and use both religously.

edit: yup, a 6-speed. 230 HP, too. not too shabby.
 
It's ironic too becase the dealership asked us if we wanted to install LoJack but my mom said what are the odds of it being stolen and declined. 8 months later it was stolen from our driveway in the middle of the night.
 
If you were to buy it (sounds like a good buy, considering it doesn't have that many miles) your first priority would be security. Although my gsr is a bit more tricked out, i would still recommend:

Pager Alarm
1 Club on the steering wheel
1 Club between the shifter and ebrake
1 Autolock
Kill Switches

And in addition to that, keep it parked inside. Oh yeah, remove the DOHC VTEC badge in the rear too, that's a definite "steal me."

You also said you had 13k to spend. A clean gsr shouldn't run that high. Check on honda-tech.com for classifieds, I *think* gsr's usually go for about 10k.

I have to agree. the later teg's are chick cars. ... yeah.. I know.. the gs-r's are fast... but 9/10 94+ teg's are driven by girls.
 
i had a 93 integra... it was only a GS but i loved that thing. very compact and nimble.

but the newer ones, they are nice too... especially with leather and moonroof. highly recommended... but definitely protect it. my friend had his car jacked up in the middle of the night too. not stolen... but the took many things from the car including the ECU.

I owned a '99 GS-R sedan (which was a pretty unusual car). It was - you guessed it - stolen when I was stationed in Oklahoma, and by the time it was recovered, they'd taken the engine, transmission, seats, dashboard, wheels, and airbag.

I wasn't totally crazy about the car, truth be told. It was rather noisy and boomy for daily commuting, and you really had to push it to feel the performance. It was a fun Sunday-drive car, but I wouldn't want to drive one every day.
 
Wow I didn't know so many people had this car or knew someone who had theirs stole or something stolen from it. I was thinking maybe just have LoJack installed, a good alarm and possibly that foot Auto lock thingy (that goes over the clutch pedal) and it should be okay.

Does anyone have that pager alarm that erikiksaz was talking about? I've seen someone with one but I don't really know how that thing works. Does it have a range or does it send a message like a real pager so you need a subscription or something. I'm curious on this but I can't seem to find any info about it.

Haha, yeah, some sh!thead tried to steal the VTEC badge from my friend's '98 GS-R, but they weren't successful and were only able to strip away half the badge. I believed he drove around with a partial "TEC" badge until the car got totaled by some drunkard mofo. :laugh: <- Not about the accident

Most GSR's are salvaged due to theft title. I had my baby stolen too.
Very rare to find one with a clean title and low miles.

I don't think it's worth it with the high insurance and theft rate.
 
What do you think the insurance rates would be for a 23 year old with no accidents or tickets? Don't some insurance companies give discounts to people who have security systems like LoJack and Alarms?

My 2004 Accord 4-door 4-cylinder costs about $600 every six months to insure. :Q

I'm 20 with no at-fault accidents and no tickets.

I'd imagine with a likely-to-be-stolen car like that and a young driver, the insurance rates would be through the roof.

Discounts for LoJack are very small according to my insurance company. Liability won't be bad but you can bet comprehensive will be!

IMO LoJack is a good deal for the insurance company, but not especially desirable from the car owner's standpoint. I know when my GS-R was stolen, I didn't want it back.

Yeah, I agree. That said, someone come steal my Accord. Its worth more to my insurance company than on the open market😛
 
*sigh* there goes my hopes for a GSR. I guess its time to move on and find something not so widely stolen.

The reason these are so commonly stolen is that the engines don't have a serial number that you can identify it with. And the engine can be dropped into a lot of different cars.
