I'm considering buying a new car as my truck is getting a little dated. I went looking today and found some cars with hail damage at a dealership. Some of them were pretty nice, but the hail damage was noticable. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into buying a car with pre-existing hail damage. I know the dealership bought the cars from an auction because of the hail damage. Because of that, I doubt if I will be able to know what the dealership paid for the car. Is there a common rule or bargaining technique to purchasing a car with hail damage, such as a % off the sticker price? Thanks for any input.

All the cars are new btw. None of them are used.

Heh, damn...

If I could get a really good deal, I'd buy one of those dent poppers and try my best to pop anything serious out. :D

If I bought one with hail damage, I would basically just be buying it for transportation. I don't want to pay too much for something that is coming off the lot damaged though.

Other than glass cracks which need to be replaced, hail damage is purely cosmetic and won't effect how the car runs or how long it lasts. There probably isn't any rule of thumb to cover hail, just apply the same logic as you would to determine the value of a car with minor damage from backing into a mailbox. If the car would be worth 13,000 once the damage was fixed and the damage would cost $1000 to repair then the car is worth somewhere in the $12,000 range.
