i know this is vague but its worth a shot

i hopped into my car (98 prelude) after work and when i turned the key nothing happened twice so i waited about 20 seconds and she started right up. i drove about 10 miles and ate dinner. on the way home the check engine light came on. i was thinking maybe a short? any other ideas?

First thing that comes to mind is a loose battery connection. Check the connections for corrosion, clean them with sand paper or whatever you have (anything abrasive or sharp will work), add anti-corrosion spray/whatever if possible, and tighten them.

If you can figure out what code the computer stored when the engine light came on that would be 100x more helpful too.

...i turned the key nothing happened...

Was there a faint "click" from under the hood? If so, I'd say the solenoid needs replaced. If not, it could be the ignition switch. Neither have anything at all to do with waiting 20 seconds, or the check engine light.

Edit: BTW, your topic title is REALLY poor!

i checked the battery when i got home and it is still new and the connections are clean. when i turned the key absolutely nothing happened, not even a click, thats why i was thinking something electrical like a short or loose wire?
