If you can't take the cable off the battery, hitting it isn't going to get rid of all the corrosion between the cable end and battery terminal. If you've stripped yours, you need a Nutbuster (I like saying that). Trust me, it will work. I used to install batteries and had to use this all the time. If you had poured hot baking soda water on the post first, it might not have stripped. Once you get if off, the center of the cable end (the part that turns) will pop out and you can replace just that part. Dip the rest of the cable end in a can of hot baking soda water. Pour water on the battery terminal. Use a wire battery brush to scrub it. BTW, the cable end hex head should have been 5/16".
You need fix this before anyone else can help you.
