2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS

Pros:
- i like the interior leather better (the '03s have this two-tone thing that i hate)
- getting the stereo upgrade (the base stereo is suck)
- getting the cool "alloy fuel door" for free
- car is in stock and could be driven off lot tomorrow

Cons:
- not an '03
- it's the GS model, not the GT
- a lot of money down

They want $2,000 down plus registration and all that crap, which is probably another $800
They quoted $369 a month.

36 month lease.
15,000 miles a year
----------------------------------

EDIT:

with all my options, they're quoting me $380 for 36 months, $355 for 42 months.

$370 a month seems like a lot of money to just be leasing. my 98 Civic on a brand new 36 month purchase was less then that to buy

No. Not at all.

Payments alone add up to $13284. Then factor in that you'll have nearly $3000 in additional costs, and you don't even keep the car? No way, no thanks. Leases can be advantageous...this one is not.

Then figure in that you are getting a dud of an engine...not cool.

My opinion - look for a nice, year or two old one and then finance it.

to add to the quote above, not only will you have paid over $16 grand, but you still have to pay fair market value at the end of lease to keep the car. let's say fair market value is $12k, wow. that's $28K.

you should be able to do better.

Well... I don't want the car at the end, so that's not a big deal for me.

look here

Eclipes GT convertible....you can probably negotiate and get them down another 2k on the price. Look for a third party lease company and you can probably knock at least $30 off of your payments, and not have to cough up that huge downpayment amount.

I just checked Autotrader and the invoice on the car I'm getting is $24,028.

It looks like they're selling it to me for a like $24,500 with the stereo upgrade that usually costs $1k

Seems like the best deal i could be getting

What's wrong with an '01?

As for third party leasing....you can check with the dealer or your bank. Both might be able to point you in the right direction. I can lease used cars through my credit union at pretty reasonable rates.

I want it new, plus there's a few stylistic changes they made from '01 - '02

How do I find out about third party leasing? I thought I had to get it through the dealership

check out yahoo.com and go to the automotive section. they have a lotta links including links to 3rd party leasers. it is better to go thru a 3rd party leaser because they will tell you what interest rate you are being charged etc. so it is easier to shop.

$500 off from a sterio upgrade? Dude my fully loaded 4x4 extended cab truck was $32,000 MSRP... I got it for $28,000 WITH TAXES INCLUDED. You need to bargain with those "Sharks" some more

Stereo upgrades are retarded. Get an upgrade in your house. You probably spend more time there than in your car.

That's expensive. You should buy a car if can afford to make those payments. You could buy a $20,000 car over 5 years for less per month than those payments.

They're trying to "whack" you. Don't let them.

Then buy it over 5 years. Ask them what the payment would be with your 2000 down. I think it will be very close to the same payment.

5 years is not an option.

I want it for 3 years and out.
