OK, so the transmission on the Lincoln has started to slip when it's cold and not want to shift into second. The Lincoln is in decent shape, but there are little niggling things that are starting to come up and I'm not in the mood for a transmission re-build on the car.

I went to a Ford dealer to look at the Focus as a simple, commuter car and got caught looking at this black Mustang GT with Leather and the Shaker 1,000... It was then that I uttered "the phrase". The phrase that always precedes me buying a car... "It can't hurt to just test drive it..."

I managed to talk the dealer down out of the $6,000 mark-up (the price offered matches Edmund's TMV) on the Mustang and they've given me full trade-in value on the Lincoln...

Anyone with an '05 or '06 Mustang care to chime in with information on how the car works everyday? I'm thinking this is a great deal for a person like me who keeps cars until they die. The Mustang should be a car I keep for a long time and it was just so comfy for me to sit in, and the way it drove was simply amazing. Not the 951, but a great handling automobile, and I'm not losing any mileage from the Lincoln...

That should have been a simple matter of telling the salesdroid that the dealership would have to be out of its mind to believe that you'd even consider paying a $6000 markup.

Pretty much was. The amazing thing is that I'm sure the pressure tactics do get some people to actually pay that.

Basically I'm getting a half-decent deal on the Mustang and a killer deal on the trade-in that I know will be needing a transmission re-build in 6-12 months. 😛

My grandma had an 05 mustang, drove it once and a while, really liked it, but then again it wasn't my car, so take this for what its worth.

dunno how long your gonna keep it with the likely repairs it will need later on in life.

Person I know has a previous model and she's always replacing something

As an 05 GT owner, let me tell you, I bought my car a year ago, and still get horny to drive it. It has had a few non-major problems that were all taken care of (first year model). I say go for it, join the club 🙂

Well I'm sure you'd be happy with it, but you should test drive a few other vehicles first.
I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "Let the wheel seal the deal." That's what just happened to you 😛 Driving something else might get you considering other options which might be better for you.

Just a suggestion is all.

If your young, single, and know how to drive to get mileage when you have to you are not taking much of a hit driving a Mustang over anything even comparable to the fun factor. I would take the gas mileage of a V8 anyday instead of having to drive an ugly boring no torque Honda.

Mustangs aren't that impractical. Honestly, mine was as practical as the A4, and superbly more practical than the current ride.

1. Has a backseat
2. Has a decent trunk
3. Traction Control
4. Cheap to maintain
5. Uses regular octane gas
6. RWD

I'd say a Mustang is very practical.

I wasn't talking about fuel economy. 😕 There are so many times I wish I had more room in my car. If I were going to buy a second, I'd get something I can fit a bunch of junk in. I don't know how the new Mustangs compare to the last generation, but my brother's Mustang is probably comparable to my car in cargo space.

When everyone you know has an SUV or a truck of some sort that is not an issue. I borrow vehicles for hauling....I drive cars that haul ass.
