My car is running perfect after installing the new alternator, but my idler pulley is shaking a bit, causing the belt to move as well.

It's not a serious vibration, it's probably moving back and forth 1/8". The "mechanic" who put my alternator in said this was normal, just wondering.

In my experience, no. With the belt off clearance in the pulley bearings should just be barely perceptible to hand pressure.

Not normal. I would suggest replacing it. They are fairly cheap and easy to change.

That sucks =( Well, does anyone know if there is a difference between '95 Maxima alternators and '97 I30 alternators? The two were slightly different, almost imperceptible. It seems like it was about 1/8" bigger all around and had a different bolt spacer that the original bad alternator.

Dear Lord, sell the car and get something that hasn't been monkeyed around with by shadetree mechanics.

BTW, 1/8 of an inch may as well be a foot when you're talking about precision clearances and parts that shouldn't be out of balance while spinning.

His next post is going to be something like, "One of my pistons fell out of a hole in the side of the block. How much will it cost to fix?"

LOL.. :p

Nahhh, my warranty would cover that, and I know it only has a $100 deductible!
