YACT: alignment

title says everything.. My friend told me that they have computerized machines now and tires don't have to be new/even/whatever.

Dunno....what alignment is your car? If it's lawful good then you need to get no more radical than a chaotic good alignment for your tires.....otherwise you are just asking for trouble man...

If your tires are worn to tread bars or cords are showing, or they are just plain worn, then most alignment shops will not do an alignment unitl you get tires put on that are new or not worn.

Think about it, if your tires are worn, and you get an alignment, how are you supposed to pinpoint the exact cause of the wear on the tires with a wear pattern is already on there?

It's also important to have the same type on tires on you car, not only size but brand as well. Different tire treads can track the road surface differently causing pulls or drifts. Make sure you have the correct cold air pressure per the owner?s manual or vehicle?s label.

Why do you think you vehicle needs an alignment?

To answer your question, no you don't need new tires.

If they're worn pretty bad, then you should definately get some new tires. An unwanted expense, yes, but you'll benefit from it down the road. Plus, if you had your tires rotated and balanced around the same time you change your oil, you'll extend the life of your tires.
