Takes forever to cool now a days, and it never seems to get real cold unless i'm in it and driving for 20 minutes. Other cars I sit in, if its on full blast, it will get cold immediately. Any suggestions? 99 Nissan Sentra.

get it recharged

hopefully there isn't a leak

Recharged, eh? How much does that cost?

Cost me $50 for a '96 Sentra, but I know the owner well.
He couldn't spot a leak this time so he's refunding me half if I come back a month later and it's not cool anymore.

I have to recharge the AC in my 95 Caravan four times a year. It has a cracked compressor and a cracked pressure line. They want $750 to fix it and it only costs me $6 for a can of coolant 4 times a year. Screw them and the environment. 😛

It sounds like you have a low charge, having the system checked and recharged should take care of the current condition. If the leak gets worst you will have to fix it to keep the refrigerant in the system.

A normal partial charge with inspection can be cost between $35-95 and refrigerant depending on where you go.

Look for the refridgerant sight glass (its usually located in the front of your car) its a small tank with a small round window on it. Run your car with the A/C on for a couple of minutes then look at the sight glass. If its milky and has bubbles then you have a leak somewhere if its clear then its okay.

Funny, the AC works fine in my cars but I never use it...what with the price of gas and all. I just roll down the windows at low speeds and turn on cool air on the freeway.

Same here. 2 door car so the windows are huge. Wunroof to get even more air. I hardly ever turn the air on unless it's just insanely hot and I can't stand it.

meh gas is still cheap... till gas prices are over $5/gallon, long live the A/C!

An easy way to spot a leak is to look for black, dirty buildup around the hose connections on the AC. If you see any - you found a leak. Usually the O-rings go first. They are very cheap, but to replace them is time consuming and requires discharging your system first.

I don't not use it because it sucks gas mileage, I don't use it because it also sucks power. I like being able to step on the gas and go which most cars don't do as well when the AC is on.

My old Geo Storm couldn't much move if the AC was on. I had to turn it off, get up to speed, then turn it back on again. But it got great gas mileage.

yeah, just keep all of your windows down, avoid stopped traffic and speed more excessivley.... Of all of the times I've had my A/C on in the mustang, only twice was because I was hot in the last year I've had it....
