R12 = Freon
R134a = Refrigerant

Well technically, they're both refrigerant. As is r-22 and r-410A (Puron)... They are all classified as refrigerants. Freon and Puron are brand names of r-12 and r-410A, respectively. As far as I know, there is no brand name for r-22 and r-134a.

I just had my compressor replaced and a few other hoses and parts and stuff replaced just for my A/C system in my 93 camry at PepBoys....cost me about $800 which isnt bad I guess but more than half of that was the cost of the compressor.
