YACT, Advice needed!

Alright so here's the situation:

1) When I first got the car, it was from my dad since he bought it a while ago (had around 80,000 miles on it at the time) and it is around 109,000 as of right now. The car's exterior and interior are in amazing shape, like there are no rips anywhere and the body is pretty much flawless besides some paint chips here and there.

2) After owning it for a while I realized that this thing was incredibly slow, so we changed the intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rail, intake, and a few other minor things. This helped it out quite a bit since the old tb was incredibly small and the new one seemed huge compared to it. After we did all this, the car gods decided that I should have kept it stock and so the problems started.

3) While some of these problems were caused by us, some of them just appeared due to the fact when something goes wrong, it takes it to the max. The brakes on the car weren't that great to begin with and right now they're awful, the suspension is incredibly stuff, the catalytic converter isn't sealed right and wisps of exhaust and/or other stuff come out of it from time to time and it doesn't smell all that great, the CV joint in the front knocks pretty bad when I turn the car, the idle is unstable since while the new intake manifold had a place for the IAC it either quit working or doesn't like the setup, and the most major thing that just happened a few days ago was that I was backin the car up in school and I put it in reverse and it didn't do anything when I slipped the clutch so I put it back in 1st and it still didn't do anything, it just acted like it was in neutral. So I sat there for a while and then eventually I just stuck my foot out and pushed the car back cause it's so light. This is a re occuring problem now and we think it's due to the fact that the differential and/or axle decided to break in some spot and if I catch that car in that spot it won't go, but if the car rolls, Im fine.

4) So I come here to ask you fellow AT'ers if I should just keep the car and do an engine swap for a B16 (complete drivetrain, not just engine), fix the other stuff, and continue using the car since the body is great and that would fix most the problems, or should I see what I could even get for it and buy a different car.

Information on the car: 1991 Honda CRX (originally HF but has a DX head, D15B2, 5spd, 109,000 miles). We replaced a lot of stuff on it already like the windshield and the panels for the doors and some stuff in the engine bay and other things, and it looks great. The car handles fine in the winter with the snow tires and in the Summer it's great to drive around.

Cliffs:
1. CRX has problems
2. Body is in great shape, numerous parts replaced
3. Is it worth it to do a drivetrain swap?

Hmm...CRXs are fun little cars, but if you're complaining about a stiff suspension, maybe you'd be better off selling it to someone else. You'd get pretty good money for it...they tend to be fairly overpriced on the used market.

If you don't mind the fact that you'll never get the money back that you put into fixing it, then go for it.

I wouldn't bother with a B-series swap unless the body is in mint condition and you plan on getting a new exhaust, and calipers, and anything else that needs replacing. You might consider a ZC SOHC which can be done for alot less, and has about 130HP. I wouldn't sell it if it were mine, but I guess it depends on how much you like the car.

Body is perfect. Exhaust is brand new, headers are new. Why would calipers have to be changed? The rotors are warped, thats the main problem he has with the brakes.

(wake up so I don't have to field your posts!) 😛

Yeah, but the suspension is just overall bad too, the previous owner got some suspension thing for it and it's just those cheap coil over things you can get off Ebay so you can quickly raise or lower the car, It's not in that great of shape either in terms of how they were put it in, but I never really had the money till now to do something about it.

Tokico "blue" shocks and decent springs shouldn't be more than $400 or so. As for the engine.....a early B16 shouldn't be terribly expensive. Or you could go for an LS motor with your stock trans.

Yeah, if we were to change the engine the transmission would have to be changed too since the HF is all about the fuel economy and we need something that's geared a little tighter.
