BMW X5, a little more than what you are asking for, based on the 5 series. but an Acura aint no BMW, and you probably know that since you own a 325i already.

He said he wanted more space. My Passat wagon has double the luggage capacity of the X5 and quite a bit more back seat space.

X5 is way too small. I need a third row of seats. Rode a friend's X5 and it's nice but it's no bigger than my GS300.

Dude, a friend of mine just bought an MDX.
Let me be the first to say: I hate SUVs!
But this thing is sweeeeet. It's like a TARDIS, man. It doesn't look that big from the outside...well no bigger than an explorer, at least, but it seems almost infinite on the inside.
He loves it. He said it drives just like a car, he loves the space...
He really can't seem to say enough nice things about it.
It's almost annoying.

<< Yeah. I just looked at the Envoy XL and it looks really bad. I like the regular Envoy but the XL looks like a distorted mirror image or something. I checked Carsdirect on it too and it says the model is no longer available either.

Also, if I'm going to spend $35K on an Ford Exploder, I'd rather have a more luxurious MDX instead for a little more.
>>

I like the interior of the MDX! its really nice looking, i think id have to sit in one to give you the final thought, also my explorer has about every amenity i can think of and much more power then most other SUVs, i like it but my next one will probably be a navigator or an escalade.
>>

We looked at the V8 Explorer too. We just couldn't justify the price and fuel mileage penalty though. I was suprised at how expensive the new '02 Explorer is compared to the other offerings considering my dad got an essentially loaded Highlander Limited (minus one option) for $32,500. And he even ordered that one b/c they didn't have any on the lot.
>>

i got mine a couple of weeks after they just came out so i might have paid a premium, the v8 and v6 get really similar gas mileage, in reality i average around 16.5 mpg, which is about the same as my roomates IS300 lol and i have a big v8

She doesn't want a minivan because she wants something upscale to replace our Lexus. She has to look good and show off to her church friends and can't been seen in a minivan

I'm being serious too.

I don't like SUVs. I'm a sport sedan guy. When we got married, she wanted an RX300 (she's a pharmacist, go figure) so I had to pay up and get a GS300 in order for her to forget the SUV.

Now there is no avoiding it. With 2 kids, we need something big with 3 rows for 2 car seats and 3 or 4 adults.

vi_edit, thanks for the suggestion but that E320 is so expensive. I definitely think MBs are way over priced for what you get.

Edit: You really want me to get the MB don't you? You linked the MB to the Sequoia link.

I find that really disturbing.

Was she like that when you were dating?

I don't think I have dated but one girl who really cared about money.

No, not a retail pharmacist. Works at a pharmaceutical distributor.

And yes Glen, don't get married :) I'm serious :)

She's not really materialistic when it comes to regularly everyday things but she likes cars. Fortunately, we're not hard up for money so I can live with a car purchase every 3 years.

My folks fell on sudden difficult times when I was growing up.
My folks both worked together as a couple to make it work saving every penny they could.
Now, they own multiple homes and could have any car they wanted.
My mom drives a 7 year old Toyota, because she DOESN'T want to look flashey.

Glen, I'm 32 YO. My parents struggled too. I know what it is like to be poor also so I know better than to be stupid with money. I'm not living above my means. I fully own my apartment meaning I have no mortgage. My wife is in a very hot profession and I do ok myself.

Right now, she just wants a nice car. She doesn't ask for alot. She is usually busy taking care of the kids. I can live with a car purchase every 3 years. It's not like she is asking me to get her an S class or 7 series or X5 4.4i. It's a $35K-$39K car to replace our now too small 3 YO $41K car. That's all.

I'm your age too.
I know that families often go from being very comfortable to poor, and have to be able to deal with it.
I have also seen too many of my friends wives demad flashey cars at the edge fo their limits.
It just shocks me.
I hope thinks work out well for you, and I think they will.
I hope I never have difficult financial times.
I hope that my wife will work with me to save money.

Damn Dog...

you are right... I went to carsdirect.com and a new MDX is +2500 over MSRP - wow (zip = 10128, NYC)
I suggest you buy it somewhere else where demand is lower... I looked up where my parents live and
carsdirect is quoting me +1000 over MSRP (Framingham, MA).... I think geography is going to be a major
factor in terms of pricing.

Oh, as far as this whole wife/spouse wanting things to, I am truly a lucky man.
My girlfriend of three years is cheaper than I am. Last week I bought a TV for the bedroom (24" WEGA SONY) and she
must have asked me 5 fives over the course of 3 days whether we really needed a TV in the bedroom. Mind you, I paid with my own money and she does not live with me. The TV in her apartment is a hand-me-down from my college dorm if you beleive it!

I see the invoice price of an MDX is around $31K, MSRP is $35K but I hear dealers are charging thousands more because of limited availability.
I was shopping for one with a friend towards the end of last year, and dealers had a $5000 mark up above the MSRP, and there was a waiting list.:Q This was in NJ, and between the two of us we hit just about every dealer in the state. I had far better luck in NC as the dealer in the town of Wilmington would have let me have one for $600 under MSRP. You might want to shop around since I think you also live in NJ.
