YACT: A dealer hates me!

So I did an online inventory search and found a good match at Atlanta dealer A. I contacted dealer A to give them a one-shot chance to give me an OTD price quote. They gave me a quote, and I took that info to dealer B. Dealer B could easily beat that price, so I began negotiations at dealer B. So I leave dealer B with a written agreement on car and price. Dealer B calls me later to confirm that they have secured the car from dealer A and will transport it to dealer B. After that call, I receive four phonecalls (during dinner) from dealer A, trying to earn my business, but I already have given my word to dealer B, and refuse to give dealer A any information regarding business and agreements with dealer B.

Fast-forward to this morning and dealer A refuses to give the car to dealer B because they are pissed off at me. As far as I am concerned, dealer A had their chance, so fvck them now! I don't mess around. Dealers have one chance to give me a quote and that's it.

Uh, why the hell should dealer A give the car to dealer B? Since when do different dealers sell the exact same cars? How can dealer B sell dealer A's car? What if someone walked onto the lot and bought the car at Dealer A while you were bargaining for it at dealer B?

These dealers exchange cars on a daily basis. It's routine and normally happens without a hitch. Fact is the particular car is for sale and has a buyer at dealer B, not at dealer A.

I think he basically bought a car with those specs from dealer B. Dealer B then calls up Dealer A since they happen to have a car that matches those specs to get the car from them. A dealer to dealer trade of cars or a dealer-dealer sell, iono.

THen, Dealer A figures out the car is going to the guy they were trying to sell the car to and then don't wanna give up the car.

maybe dealer A doesnt want to swap with dealer B because A think that they might have a potential buyer (YOU), you need to tell dealer B and/or A thats both buyers are YOU and only you. ;)

I think you should have given "Dealer A" a second chance. Personally, I don't care who I buy from so long as I get the best deal.

notfred, it's called a "dealer trade", where dealers trade amongst themselves. If you want a specific car, it is possible to buy it from a dealer other than the one whose lot it sits on. However, the dealer who has the car on their lot technically owns it and does not have to do the deal if they don't want to.

If you have a written confirmation from dealer B they will have to honour it, regardless where they source the item from.

If dealer A refuses to sell said item to dealer B, then that is none of your business.

Go to dealer B ask them to honour the agreement

I win either way since dealer B has promised me a car with certain specs at a certain price. They may just have to bring it in from another state instead of another side of town.

This is pretty petty of dealer A and they will pay the penalty next time they need a car from dealer B and dealer B tells them to go stuff it.

OP should've negotiated w/ both dealerships until the total reaches cost + $1, but got PWN3D by dealer A instead.

Funny thing is that they were ready to trade last night. It wasn't until I refused to speak to them on the phone that they renigged this morning.

Yeah exactly. There are more civil ways to get a good deal on a car. Being a pompous ass got this douche nowhere

How do you know dealer A won't give it up? Did dealer B actually tell you that?

Riiiiiiight--when they get around to it. They didn't promise a car within a certain time frame, did they?

When Dealer A called, I would have said, "Sorry, I have already made arrangements to buy a car elsewhere." I think they would have left you alone at that point.

If Dealer B is telling you that Dealer A won't trade the car, I would have to wonder why. All that is likely to achieve is having you void the deal and they won't want that. Maybe Dealer B found a similar car from another dealer that they could get cheaper and they want to talk you into that one. Just tell B "Are you saying you won't be able to deliver the car?" I'm sure they'll say no. Then ask how long it will take and, assuming that's an acceptable time frame, tell them to call you when it's ready. No need for you to have any involvement in the intra-dealer squabbling.

Well, dealer A is just stalling at this point. As I said, dealer A agreed last night to transfer the car to dealer B this morning. All the appropriat arrangements were made.

My salesrep has found an identical car at a different dealer and can have it here in 24 hours if dealer A continues to stall.

That's pretty funny. If you want to get Dealer A into trouble, explain all of this to the car manufacturer's dealership network office. I'm sure they'd like to hear about it.
