I own a 98 ford explorer, V8, All wheel drive, 75k miles. About a year ago the check engine light came on, took it into the dealership and they said that the catalytic converter was shot. So I had it replaced, and since my car had less than 80k miles on it they did the work for free. Got it home and it had a pretty good miss to the idle. I replaced the spark plugs and wires, and that took care of the miss. Then the check engine light came on again. It was giving me the following code:
P0430
Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
So the guy at autozone told me that meant that the 02 sensor on the passenger side was bad in front of the converter, so I bought a new one and replaced it. Cleared the code, and it comes back on about 100 miles later. The car idles and drives fine, fuel efficiency is about where I would expect it to be. What would be the next thing you would look at replacing? They guy at autozone said to replace the EGR valve. I could send it back to the dealer that changed out the catalytic converter, but they charge an arm and a leg, are far away, and I really don't want to deal with them if I could fix it myself.
