So I'm looking to get a car at some point soon. I really like the look of the Integra, but I always heard "insurance too high" etc. So I think, I like the 240sx, and it can't be that bad to insure, but I went to aisinsurance and for the exact same coverage The 240sx is 975/6mo. and the Integra is 961/6 mo. For comparison, an '99 Accord Coupe EX 4cyl with the same coverage is 782./6 mo. These are all the lowest prices from Mercury Insurance.

I know it's not alot of difference. I guess I'm not sure why the 240sx is right there in insurance costs with the Integra? Are the stolen often too?

info 25yo male(turned 25 today in fact) living in los angeles.

Insurance companies consider RWD cars (240SX) to be more of an accident/speeding risk than FWD cars (Integra), regardless of their power characteristics.

Another thing to consider is if the Integra is a 4 door or not... coupes are more expensive to insure than 4-doors.

More power? It has 155 bhp, to the Integra GS-R's 170. The GS-R is also roughly a second and a half quicker to 60 than the 240SX. I think the RWD layout is the primary reason for the difference here, and I find it surprising in that the GS-R is pretty spendy to insure.

Understood. I actually used to own a GS-R (a sedan - it was stolen and stripped of its engine, tranny, wheels, seats, dashboard, airbag, sunroof, and, of course, its VTEC badge!), and now have a Maxima SE. The Integra was frankly a bit of an unpleasant car to drive for everyday commuting, as it was very noisy and not very comfy, but it was fun to drive and quite quick for what it was. The 240SX is a pretty car, and capable of very good performance with an engine swap or turbo kit, but a pretty limited performer in stock form.

that was the only thing I could see as being the big difference, was the RWD. The coupe @ AIS is $20/6mo. more than the sedan, not a big difference. The Integras are so high b/c of the high theft rate, but I didn't think that the 240 being RWD would push it up to that level.

my cousin has a '00 Se. I dig that car, fun to drive. I thought about the maxima, but if I got one, I'd want the 00 design compared to the '99 which would be closer to this pricerange.

i wish someone would strip my integra. it's been stolen twice and crashed both times but insurance paid for repairs. i'm still paying $350/mo for a POS salvaged title car that rattles, squeeks, is rather uncomfortable due to the damned bouncing nature of the car, and it produces more cabin noise than my damned suburban.

one more thing..........it's slow

i own a '90 240SX and i'm 20 and paying 650/6 months, that's w/ clean record and 200 dollar deductible for comp. insurance companies are gay, i say go w/ the 240SX you can make if faster, and RWD is just so much more fun to drive. IMO.

Bummer. Actually another person in my apartment complex had the same thing happen - his insurer refused to total his Integra, since it was, on paper, worth about $16,000, and it was estimated to cost $12K to repair. Of course when the dust settled, it cost $18K to fix, and he was left with a car with very little resale value.

I was incredibly lucky with my GS-R, thanks to my awesome insurance company, USAA. My car was a year old and had 13K miles on it when it was stolen, and they gave me $400 less than I paid for it brand new! Even factoring in my deductible, I paid only $650 to drive a brand-new GS-R for a full year.

last I checked, the 240 had 140HP(or was it 160)? while a GSR has 170. I tend to think because A) it's a rare car and more importantly B) it's RWD

happy birthday first of all :D

I'd get the 98 240SX over the Integra because the 240SX looks SO much better.

240's are not slow, regardless of how fast the GS-R is. the 240 is nicer looking and nicer inside... IMHO.

Since neither of them are really high performing cars, and the price difference in insurance is negligable, I'd go with the 240sx. It looks much nicer, you don't see them everywhere you go, and RWD is more fun. I may be a little biased, because I think they look sort of like my car, but slower. ;)

89 and 90 240SX's were 140 HP, 91-98 were 155HP, sure the 240SX does 0-60 1.1 second slower, they are RWD, and not as common, not to mention i don't believe the stock tranny on the integra can handle 400HP like the 240SX can. if you want common go w/ integra, if you want more of a car that will stick out and a car to mod, go with the 240SX

batman nate, interested in selling the supra? lol i love that body style, trade you my 240SX? lol

comparing the 98 240 vs the 99 Integra, I like the look of the Integra more. But I do like the look of the 91 or so 240. I like the hatch look more. I have enough money for a new car, just for less hassle and whatnot. I wont be modding it, unless tint, sound and as a very dim possibility, rims count.

Sorry, but I'm attached. :D It's really not easy to find an MKIII 5-speed Turbo Supra with the whole sports package, in good condition to boot. After months of searching, I came upon an ad listed by a foriegn gentleman for exactly what I wanted, and I was able to talk the price down to $2500. It really is a fun car to drive, and the body has a very unique look that I adore.

Integra GSR is a niiiicccceeee car. We had a 97' Red GSR, got jacked infront of my house in the middle of the night :( never found it again. Damn I guess when the dealership asks if you want Lojack installed you get it installed!!!
