I have a 1998 240SX SE. 17x8+30mm wheels. Stock size was 205/55R16 (about 24.9" in diameter). I tried 235/45's but they are about 1/2" taller than stock and a lot heavier (3lbs more per tire).

I was slanting to trying a 245/40 which is almost identical, but my 8" wheels seem a bit narrow for that, plus my 235/45's sit about 1/4" from my coilovers already (less than my fingertip can fit)...

I found there is a 235/40 that BMW and some of the Subaru crowd uses.

Anyone have experience with this on a 8" wheel?

I have 215mm tires on my stock 240sx wheels and they fit fine. So with 1.5" more you'd be fine with 3cm more width. Whether it will clear your coilovers is another story.

they put 205's on an 8" rim? you'd think they would go w/ at least 215 stock. best bet: find a nissan forum. someone here is bound to know who.. lot's of nissan fans here :p

I think it should fit fine. I had 205 and 215 on a 7.5" rim so I think 235 should be fine on an 8". Just check to make sure it'll fit it. Some tires of the same size work of a different range of rim sizes.

It really depends on the manufacturer specs. I have a 12.5" tire (317.5mm) on an 8" rim.
