YACT: $300 a month. What can you get?

Well that works out to about $15k car with zero down and an interest rate of somewhere in the 5's. Or if you get a 0% you could get a high teens domestic piece of sh*t instead.

Fork that! I've never had a car payment in the thirty years I've been driving... don't intend to start having one either!

Figure out what kind of car you want and buy a used one. $300.00 per month for transportation, sheesh! :Q

Is that $300 including, or on top of, maintenance and insurance? (How old are you, how's your driving record, and how's your credit?)

As others have stated, $300/month puts you somewhere between $15k and $17k. I'd try to find a gently-used late-model Pathfinder or 4Runner or maybe even an Xterra. But then I go hiking/camping alot so it would actually see more than city streets 🙂

Edit:
I very much agree with BoogieMan, though. Unless you're just trying to impress your friends, you're approaching this decision wrong. First decide what you're looking for (sedan, coupe, truck/SUV?). Are you willing to buy a late-model used vehicle? Then weed out the models that are out of your budget.

If you go car shopping with the mindset that you're going to $300/month, that's probably what you're going to walk away with.

And you want to throw away $300 a month beucase...

Since it doesn't even sound like you are after any particular car, why don't you go BUY a good used car instead of wasting your money.

You could get a Scion for under $300/month. Of course, they're only availible in CA right now, and the styling is very subjective.

I agree... Im leasing roughly a 30k car for less than if i were to buy a 15k car...

And ya know what? I have no problem paying the rest of my life because I like getting new cars every few years.... F**k equity!@
