Detailed version (Cliffs below):

Eclipse
G20

Side by side comparison

Tested both cars today, this is what I thought/came up with:

-Eclipse is more stylish than the G20
-Eclipse has more power
-Eclipse has new battery, brakes, and tires
-Seats are cloth and its rather crowded in the back
-Sporty look = potential target for police (nothing a radar can't do)

-G20 has decent look
-Has 4 doors and is very spacious (but I don't mind 2DRs and smallish space in Eclipse)
-Leather seats
-Torque is inferior to the Eclipse
-Brakes were squeaky (dealer will check it on Monday)

To point things out:

-The G20 has BOSE system, but I did not notice a difference in sound quality between either car.
-Both have sunroof and the uneccessary but image enhancing spoilers (+20hp?)
-Eclipse is $8200 w/ 69k miles but cancels out with the G20's $7900 tag and 74K mileage
-G20 is from a dealership, Eclipse is from private seller
-I just sneezed
-Although space is smaller in Eclipse, legroom in the rear is very tolerable and I can care less what my friends think/do when they are in the car, but there are sometimes when I care for my/passenger comfort (long drives, family members, girlfriend).
-I drive in a suburban/highway region so gas will not be a factor.
-The G20's AC is a massive jet when turned to max (did not check Eclipse, though)
-G20 has some minor scratch and dings, did not really notice any on the Eclipse.
-Both have realatively good trunk space (can fit about 3 bodies in each).

Cliffs:
-Infiniti G20 or Mitsubishi Eclipse GS?
-?????
-Profit!

My 91 G20 is still going quite strong.
Other than the autotragic transmission they are very solid cars, but the transmission is probably worse in the Eclipse.

G20.

That Eclipse is my least favorite of all generations. Total chick car... except for Tyrese in 2F2F.

I guess its unanimous on which car seems more reasonable.

I did not mean to make it a one-sided analysis. I was leaning towards the G20 myself.

KBB has it at $9,865 in excellent condition.

Its not exactly excellent condition, but price would probably only drop to mid/low 9k. Remember that there is NO DEALER FEE and the fact that living in a wealthy area can factor in (maybe not, I don't know).

You can probably get a sedan with much more power than the G20 if you look at vehicles a couple years older. I'd rather have a Maxima.

For a little more there is the 2000 Maxima SE, but it requires premium gas, and thats when gas does matter to me. Plus it supposedly have a lot of engine problem.

Blech. I'd have neither. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the Mitsubishi. It's definitely less reliable, crappy build quality, but I'm pretty handy with cars so I'd be able to fix it. I'm mostly about performance and appearance when I look at cars. That G20 is butt. Looks like the econobox of the Infiniti line too. Which makes me think, why the hell would a luxury brand make an econobox? LAME! Eclipse wins.

Premium gas is going to kill me. G20 or Eclipse.

How will having premium gas kill you? Depending upon how many miles you drive, it'll cost an extra $100-$200 which IMO isn't that big of a deal. Wanna see my math? Assuming you drive 15000 miles/year and average 20mph throughout the year, thats 750 gallons of gas. Assuming a 20 cents increase for premium gas, that works out to be an extra $150 you'll be spending per year. I know that gas prices fluctuate but its not like you'll be paying less if you use regular vs premium. That $150 is relatively constant...

On the other hand, if you really do need that $150/year, I would imagine you have bigger priorities than finding a new car...

Edit: I would get the G20...

or an older Audi A4 with similar miles...my roommate just got a '98(v6 with quattro) with 68k miles for ~9k.

eclipse if your a high school girl, g20 because thats the only other option you listed

Never been in a g20, but my gf's mom has an infinity and its damn nice..

My gf's friend has a 01 eclipse and its garbage.. heater core failed, like 5 flat tires (probably her fault though), numerous electrical problems. Coulda been just a lemon, but the car was lame overall.

Most importantly however, I think guys who drive eclipses are fruity so i'd take the g20.
