I have the opportunity of getting a 1994 Bimmer 540i for a pretty good price ($7500). Right now I'm driving my mom's Civic, and I'm wondering if I should get the car. I want a manual car, and the BMW is auto, but I don't think it'd matter much if I had that car. Also it only get like 17 mpg. What should I do?! Halp!

Old Bimmer = High cost to maintain. Just be prepared to pay close to $1000 for every service you could think of :). That baby is close to ten years old, what is the milage on it? Carfax is another step for you to check out the history of the car. :) Good luck as I'm a BMW fan. :)

so true, an OLD friend of mine has a 2 door BMW coupe, think its like around a 90', he's spend about 1k$ in less than a year.

complete new clutch, alternator, now water pump.

i say do it only if you have the extra cash for maintenance, otherwise keep mooching off your moms civic :)

How much money do you earn? This car is going to be very expensive to keep running.

You can have a much more reasonable car for insurance, maintenance costs, and gas mileage in comparison to your current Civic or your potential 5series.

It's a decent deal depending on the mileage and condition of the car. Besides, you don't wanna learn on a nice car like that. Toasting the clutch on that Bimmer will break your wallet into tiny little pieces.

Yea I kinda worry about the high maintenance fees...Not completely sure what I'm gonna do yet. It has 85,000 miles on it and I'd be getting it from my uncle -- He and a friend of his own a small dealership and he gets cars, if they need it fixes them, and then sells them. He says the car is in excellent condition.

You under 21?....I think something like a BMW 325/8 would be nicer...and nearly as quick.
